Formed in late 2006, Monsters Build Mean Robots have already created a unique and breathtaking sound.
Electronic loops and backdrops merge with layered and intense guitar and organ parts, mixing with sweet mesmerizing vocals, used sparingly,
to create an overwhelming and luscious soundscape.

The duo are from the South of England, and their self-titled album
is their first release. Their name, taken from a Silver Mt Zion lyric, acknowledges their
diverse influences, ranging from Godspeed You Black
Emperor and Explosions In The Sky, to Radiohead, and then to Squarepusher and Fourtet.

You Me The Switch are a four-piece band based in London.

""The intro to Last Days of Lorca's "Let's Build Ships" is enough to worry anyone with a heart condition.
A flood of jagged guitars is set off like an emergency alarm and that sense of urgency persists throughout the record.

This is technically brilliant edgy indie music, but the mathematical upsets to the rhythm are far from a distraction,
simply adding to the feeling that storm clouds are closing in.

Last Days of Lorca have an aptitude for this type of song. It's completely immersive,
drowning listeners in a tidal wave of noise and then draining away to cause an audio-drought.
People go nuts about bands that manage to pull of a proficient experimental track,
but this band have a naturally individual sound that sweeps away comparisons to well-known counterparts,
like Radiohead or Muse.

If they don't get snapped up by an astute record label,
they're welcome to live in my spare room and play this music all day and all night."

"Grabbing you roughly by the shoulder and ushering you into their maxichrome world fraught with tense beats
and wiry guitars, Last Days of Lorca waste no time at all in getting right into the meaty section of "As Flies Fly".

Things are stark but not bleak - it's high contrast and high energy and,
as is the case for "I Am Rat", very clever and very precise.
There are plenty of changes throughout the track, but the urgency remains
and is a feature of all of the songs on this EP.

"My Militia Will Eat Your Militia" is possibly the lead contender for 'best melody'
on this record - at once interesting and memorable and totally lending itself to the tone of the record.
Lambrou's voice is more mature on this track, finding weight and substance
without losing the unique tonal qualities that make it so recognisable.

Last Days of Lorca have come up trumps with this EP.
It will definitely see further plays and is unlikely to have much dust-catching opportunities
while it lives in my collection. Fans of Muse, Radiohead and even
My Chemical Romance will all find something to love in this record.
